Two holidays in one!
Corfu in combination with ZagoriMake the most of your stay on Corfu by combining your visit with a trip to Zagori, one of Europe's outstanding areas of natural beauty. Travelmaker welcomes you to the Hotel Porfyron, in the picturesque village of Ano Pedina. With the hotel as a base, you can explore many interesting places in the vicinity, such as the city of Ioannina, the ancient theatre of Dodoni and the limestone caves at Perama. We recommend a stay of at least three days in this strikingly beautiful area, only recently touched by the modern world.
Porfyron
Porfyron means purple in Greek, and the Hotel Porfyron stands out like a fiery beacon between the grey houses of the picturesque stone-built village of Ano Pedina. This pleasant hotel was built in 1850 as a doctor's residence and was later used as a girls' school. The present owners have carefully restored the beautiful building, preserving as much of the original character as possible. Fretwork ceilings dating back 150 years still adorn the entrance and the upper floor.
Location: Centrally located in the charming village of Ano Pedina. Visit the Evangelistria convent or walk to the nearby villages of Monodendri and Elafotopos.
Facilities: Sitting room with fireplace and television, dining room, restaurant (where Yiannis serves a delicious selection of regional specialties) and terraces.
Rooms: All eight rooms are named after famous Greek mountain peaks. Each room has a different lay-out, shower and toilet (two of the rooms have a Jacuzzi bath) and most also have a fireplace and depending on the type of room between two and five people can be accommodated.
Particular details: Yiannis and Rita, the owners, attach much value to the Greek tradition of hospitality. They give their guests a warm welcome, making sure they feel at home. In the hotel's restaurant, they prepare fresh regional dishes daily (also catering for vegetarians), with ingredients from their own garden or the surrounding countryside. Rita's favourite pursuit is making jam, marmalade and liqueurs, and her delicious homemade jam is served as part of the extensive breakfast.
Prices: start from 70 euros per room, including breakfast, and depending on your individual wishes and the number of persons in your group. If you would like to have more information or check availability, please contact us by email.

Zagoria
North of the mainland city of Ioannina, tucked away deep in the Pindos Mountains, is the region known as Zagori, renowed for its dramatic landscape of imposing mountains, towering cliffs and breathtaking ravines. As well as its immense natural beauty, it is famed for the great variety in wild flowers (including over 50 varieties of orchids), and richness of its fauna. Walking is the key to seeking out these treasures, and the highlight of any trip to Zagori has always been a walk along the Vikos Gorge, Europe's second largest ravine (12 km long, 2 km wide). A spectacular viewpoint, known locally as the Vikos Balcony, is without doubt one of the great sights of Europe. The region boasts 46 stone-built villages, their picturesque nature enhanced by a unique architecture style. Byzantine churches and monasteries lend additional interest to many of the settlements.
